COST Day in South Africa

December 2009 saw, COST and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) organise a COST Day in Pretoria with the support of the European South African Science and Technology Advancement Programme (ESASTAP).

Dr Thierry Goger Science Officer for the TUD Domain joined discussions, giving an overview of COST projects in transport research. He also presented COST activities, advertised the programme's support for South African scientists and highlighted COST opportunities. The audience included transport researchers, practionners and managers which made for an active and varied debate.

For those working in transport research, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) also presented 2009 African transport research findings.

Kenny Kistan and Mathetha Mokonyama from CSIR Built Environment and South African National Contact Points for Transport in FP7 helped coordinate this event. They remarked on the opportunities offered by COST and the flexibility of the programme. “We have to organise such an event on an annual basis! It is excellent way of stimulating interaction and synergy between Europe and South Africa,” declared Kenny Kistan.
