Meet the DC Chair for the COST FA Domain

You were nominated as a COST Domain Committee member by your country. What was your motivation to stand for election as DC Chair?
When I stood for Chair, after two years as a DC member, I already had the strong conviction that COST is an extremely valuable instrument for European science and technology. I also feel that the work we do at the DCs is truly useful for the programme. It was not difficult to make a decision to dedicate some extra effort into something I believe in.
How do you see the future and further evolution of COST?
COST has proven to be a unique and highly efficient tool to identify and promote cutting-edge research initiatives, and to integrate research efforts to achieve greater success. Researchers and Institutions agree on this. Irrespective of changes in structure or governance, it is clear that COST must continue to exist. I believe that a stronger, independent COST that promotes forward-looking, transdisciplinary research is about to emerge.
What is your vision of Europe for the next 10 years?
Ten years is not long term, but hopefully Europe will be a growing economy again and the European identity will continue to strengthen. The simple notion of working together on what we cannot do alone is behind the concept of a modern Europe. Science is probably one of the best examples of this.
When you have one free moment in your busy schedule, what is your preferred leisure activity?
Go for tapas, have dinner out on a terrace, live the city.
