Materials, Physical and Nanosciences (MPNS)

MPNS is home to materials science and physics, extending from conception through production, characterisation, examination, evaluation, fabrication, joining to actual application and service, including related databases, simulation tools, standards and inspections.

MPNS icon

The Domain covers the full range of materials on length scales down to the nanometer and atomic range, including surface modifications and the corresponding change in physical properties is also targeted at.

MPNS includes exploratory basic research as well as applied research in physics as a key to understanding the laws governing the behaviour of matter and energy.

It adjusts activities to changes arising from novel ideas within European research community.

Conference on Computational Physics (CCP2007) – COST-ESF Involvement

COST and ESF (European Science Foundation) sponsor the Conference on Computational Physics (CCP2007). The annual event is organised in Europe every three years and this year’s edition – organised in Brussels from 5 to 8 September 2007 – focuses on computational developments in physics ranging from electronic structure computations to simulations in astrophysics.

Tribology COST Action Brings Reduction in Fuel Consumption

The results of COST Action 532 were reported on at the International Tribology Conference ECOTRIEB 2007 held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from 12 to 15 June 2007. The COST Action contributed jointly with the EUREKA ENIWEP (European Network for Industrial Wear Prevention) Umbrella also dealing with friction control and industrial wear prevention.
