Food and Agriculture (FA)

FA covers all aspects of research in the field of agricultural and food sciences in its widest sense. The primary aim of the Domain is to encourage networking of research in any field linked to these activities as well as the related demands and needs.

The Domain naturally encompasses a very wide number of subjects, and relates to a large number of areas of human activity.

The Domain actively seeks innovative and interesting proposals even if they may not at first sight fit neatly into a traditional category of research in food and agriculture.

21 November is World Fisheries Day. COST joins all fishing communities and those involved in the protection of our marine resources in celebrating the 2011 World Fisheries Day!

World Food Day

The aim of World Food Day is to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. In 1980, the General Assembly endorsed observance of the Day in consideration of the fact that "food is a requisite for human survival and well-being and a fundamental human necessity". The theme of the 2011 World Food Day is ‘Food Prices – from Crisis to Stability’.

Networks of Science and Technology – COST exhibition at the European Parliament

From 18 to 20 October 2011, COST will organise a creative exhibition for its 40th birthday at the European Parliament in Brussels, hosted by MEP Pilar del Castillo Vera, member of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE). The exhibition will open with a reception on 18 October where Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament, will provide a message. Máire Geoghegan-Quinn, Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science and Dr Ángeles Rodríguez-Peña, President of the COST Committee of Senior Officials, will deliver keynote addresses at that time.
